I\'m Brad. In July 2013, I opened this vintage bicycle shop with Ben. It’s called Rideal.
Before that, I was a tennis coach. Ben was in IT. But we both like fixed-gear bikes and know some basic principles regarding bicycles. We are not professionals though. Only after years of studying and exploring, we are now able to meet all the customized bicycle requirements.
Even the seemingly simple process of assembly requires knowledge. For example, the threads used are completely different now. Parts need to be changed and updated to fit with other parts that have also been modified now. Different countries and different brands add their own characteristics to different parts. The British brand, Brooks for example, specializes in bicycle leather goods. Many people like their leather cushions. Japanese brands are known for exquisite workmanship. American brands meanwhile are rougher but use good material. As for wooden parts like these, they only exist in Europe. And the related technology used there is very mature.
80% of the shop’s bicycles are vintage models. Take Colossi’s customized bicycles from Holland as an example. Since the maker used to be a professional cyclist, the materials and technology used are great. Many different frames to choose from as well.
We often modify old second hand bicycles. The one I ride myself is an old Phoenix. We removed the paint first, so people can see it in its original appearance. Every bicycle displayed and for sale here has been assembled by Ben and me. We are quite fast now. We can assemble a bicycle in less than an hour.
Today I\'ll assemble this male bike. I like its classic and modern design.
